CHINA, HONG KONG & MACAO

China is a very interesting country to explore and it was one of my first destinations to Asia continent.  On the one hand, it is the fastest developing country and on the other hand, it is a still socialist country with the largest population. For a long period, China was a very hermetically closed country, where only few had access to. Today, China is very open for tourism and tourists who help their economy.

If you want to see the country from the historical point of view – you must visit Beijing. The most popular tourist attractions are Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven and more. Visiting this city, you can not forget about one of the 7 Wonders of the World – the Great Wall of China. This place is located only 1 hour away from Beijing. It is one of those things you need to see before you die – It is a spectacular view!

If you want to see modern China you need to visit Shanghai. The city is just 5 hours away from Beijing. You can get there by fast train at over 300km / h. This city is an ongoing development boom, where each year a lot of new Sky Scrappers are growing. The most spectacular view I saw was the panorama of the Bund. I was very impressed! Unfortunately, the weather in Shanghai is often unpredictable so the view can be a bit foggy. The most famous tourist attractions are Yu Garden, Oriental Pearl Tower, Nanjing Road – the main shopping street of Shanghai and Shanghai World Financial Center from where on the top of it is an observatory deck with glass flooring.

Another interesting place to discover is Hong Kong. The city / state was under British rule for many years. Currently, it is an independent country that will be joined to China after 50 years of contracting. Hong Kong is a huge city in a small area, all buildings are very high and apartments very small, which must accommodate a large population of the country. The city has a great influence on both Chinese and British culture.

If you are in Hong Kong, take a ferry to Macao, a country which in the past was a Portuguese colony. This place is called Las Vegas of Asia.
